Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until it dissolves and becomes bubbly.
  3. Pour the caramel mixture into the greased cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  4. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Arrange the apple slices on top of the caramel mixture in the cake pan.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  6. In a separate large bowl, cream together the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the apple cider and milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  8. Pour the batter over the apple slices in the cake pan, smoothing the top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Remove the cake from the oven and let it rest in the pan for 10 minutes.
  11. Carefully invert the cake onto a serving platter, allowing the caramel and apple slices to become the top of the cake.
  12. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
