  2. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the sweet potatoes. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
  4. Drain the sweet potatoes and transfer them to a mixing bowl.
  5. Add butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt to the bowl. Mash the sweet potatoes until smooth and well combined.
  6. Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Sprinkle pecans on top of the mashed sweet potatoes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pecans are lightly toasted.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
